Lviv prepares to drill 23-metre piles for overpass to Riasne

In Lviv, at the junction of T. Shevchenka Street and Fr Omelyan Kovch Street, construction is under way on a new overpass that should improve connections between the Riasne neighbourhood and the city centre. LKP “Lvivavtodor” has reported on the progress of the works.

Sheet piling has already been installed on the construction site and the slope has been reinforced. The contractor is now preparing to install 23-metre-deep bored piles, which will form the foundations of the future overpass supports.

LKP “Lvivavtodor” explains that bored piles are reinforced concrete structures that are drilled into the ground and used as foundations for large engineering structures. First, a borehole of the required depth is drilled in the ground, then a reinforcement cage is installed and the hole is filled with concrete. Once the concrete has set, the pile becomes a solid support.

According to the company, the contractor has already completed preparatory works on the site. In the coming days, they plan to start drilling the piles; before this, the slope in the area was reinforced with sheet piling.

Mykola Vlasiuk, Director of LKP “Lvivavtodor”, noted that one of the most critical stages of construction lies ahead, as it concerns the foundations of the future overpass. Once preparations are complete on the section from the Shevchenka Street side, five bored piles are to be installed.
