A Square to Replace ‘Dobrobut’ Market in Lviv

The Lviv City Council has decided to establish a square on the site of the former ‘Dobrobut’ market. The area designated for the new square includes Knyaz Yaoslav Osmomysl Square and is bounded by Lazneva, Sianska, and Pidmurna streets.

Supported by 46 councillors, the decision entails the creation of a citywide square with comprehensive landscaping. Plans also include the construction of an underground car park, which will serve as a civilian defence shelter.

The project is being executed based on the decision of a nationwide open architectural competition, aiming to create a large public space.

‘There is consolidated support for creating a large square,’ noted city councillor Volodymyr Luchyshyn

.

The main focus is on planting 245 trees and developing a 1.6-hectare green area. Andriy Sadovyi, the Mayor, described the decision as important, reflecting the community’s will.

The concept of the square was discussed directly on-site with city council representatives before the session, highlighting the commitment to thorough modernisation of urban space.
