At the crossroads of Chornovola Avenue and Khimichna Street in Lviv, a new yellow box junction road marking has been applied. This was reported by the Shevchenkivskyi District Administration.
This type of marking is used to prevent drivers from blocking a junction during traffic jams and obstructing vehicles coming from other directions. It is a grid of diagonal lines within a rectangular border, on which stopping vehicles is prohibited.
The district administration reminds drivers that, according to the Highway Code, a driver is not allowed to enter a junction, even on a green light, if there is a traffic jam ahead and it is not possible to clear it completely, meaning they would have to stop directly on the yellow box marking.
The new marking is intended to help reduce congestion, improve traffic flow, enhance road safety and make the junction clearer for drivers. Motorists are asked to pay attention and comply with the rules.
The first yellow box junction in Lviv was applied in 2020 at the crossroads of Pasichna and Medovoi Pechery Streets. This type of marking was developed specifically to prevent traffic jams and major build-ups of vehicles at junctions.
