Reconstruction of Zaliznychna Street is under way in Lviv, where a roundabout for traffic has begun to be installed at the junction with Yasna Street. The works are being carried out as part of a comprehensive upgrade of one of the city’s most accident-prone streets.
According to the director of LKP «Lvivavtodor», Mykola Vlasiuk, the contractor is now completing the formation of the roadbed for the structural layers of the future roundabout. The next stage will be to form the base and subsequent layers of the road surface.
The reconstruction is taking place simultaneously on two sections: from Shevchenka Street to Yasna Street and from Yasna Street to Storozhenka Street. On the section from the quasi-roundabout on Shevchenka Street to Yasna Street, work is being completed on the construction of entrances and exits to residential buildings and underground car parks, paving of pavements, installation of kerbs and edging, laying of ducts for external lighting networks, creation of green areas and backfilling with soil.
As part of the second stage, on the section from Yasna Street to Storozhenka Street, the installation of underground utilities continues and preparation of the roadbed for the structural layers of the road has begun.
The Zaliznychna Street reconstruction project provides for the complete replacement of all utilities, renewal of the road surface, installation of two cycle lanes, repair of pavements and creation of parking spaces. The carriageway and cycle lanes will be surfaced with asphalt concrete, the parking spaces will be paved with setts, and the pavements with concrete paving slabs. The street will be brought to a single level to make it easier for different groups of residents to get around; in particular, most pedestrian crossings will be raised to pavement level.
The repair works are financed with loan funds, as the city budget is primarily directed towards supporting the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
During the reconstruction, a diversion has been organised around the section under repair. From the Storozhenka Street side, traffic is directed along Shchekavytska Street, O. Stepanivny Street, Kvitky-Osnovʼianenka Street, Bortnianskoho Street and Lutskyi Street, exiting onto Shevchenka Street. From the Shevchenka Street side, the diversion runs via Bortnianskoho Street or O. Lutskyi Street, then along Brativ Duzhykh Street and Brativ Mikhnovskykh Street, exiting onto Horodotska Street.
