Construction of a new overpass to the Riasne residential district is under way in Lviv. According to LKP «Lvivavtodor», on the Shevchenka Street side contractors are at the final stage of concreting the cone — an element that will protect the slope from erosion caused by rainwater.
Works are being carried out in parallel from the side of Kovcha Street. There the focus is currently on installing the extensions on the bored cast-in-place piles: the reinforcement of the structure is in progress, onto which the bridge beams will later be installed.
«Works on both sides of the structure are progressing in parallel, but at different stages. In this way, the structures of the future overpass are gradually taking shape — from slope stabilisation to preparing the supporting part for the bridge beams», said the director of LKP «Lvivavtodor» Mykola Vlasiuk.
Under the design, this will be a modern 32-metre overpass with three traffic lanes, a combined cycle and pedestrian path, and traffic light control. The infrastructure is expected to improve and make safer the connection between the Riasne residential district and the city centre.
Preparatory works for the construction of the duplicate overpass on Kovcha Street began in March. The new facility is intended to relieve the heavily overloaded Shevchenka Street and make it possible to carry out the reconstruction of the existing unsafe bridge.
The estimated construction period is 11 months, however the main works are planned to be completed by the end of this year. The project cost is UAH 106.8 million. The bridge is being built using loan funds, as the financial resources of the city budget are directed primarily towards supporting the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
Since the beginning of russia’s full-scale invasion, capital repairs of roads in Lviv have been suspended. It later became clear that postponing works on streets with intensive traffic leads to rapid deterioration of the surface and an increase in the future cost of repairs, so the city began to use loan instruments and co-financing.
In particular, in 2025 the repair of Zaliznychna Street, classified as one of the most hazardous in Lviv, started using loan funds. In 2026, also using loan resources, the repair of Mazepy Street began. Works on Stryiska, Heroiv UPA, Horodotska and Vynnychenka streets are being carried out with deferred payment.
Business is also contributing to the renewal of the street network. Repairs to Koniushynna Street were carried out with deferred payment and co-financing from local entrepreneurs. The same model is being applied during the repair of Beskydska Street.
