Lviv will have a lake and recreation on Zamarstynivska Street

Сьогодні громаді представлять детальний план території

A full-fledged lake will be restored on the site of the former technical fish ponds at 172 Zamarstynivska Street. But now it will have a recreational function rather than an industrial one for residents’ recreation.

A detailed plan of the territory will be presented today, 9 December, during public hearings at 16:00 in the Hnat Khotkevych Palace of Culture.

This was reported by the Lviv City Council.

The newly created recreational area with a pond, which will be restored by the developer, will be open to everyone, not just residents of the residential complex. The area around the lake is planned to be landscaped and recreational areas will be created, and a small restaurant is also planned.

Deputy Mayor for Urban Development Liubomyr Zubach says that the development of water bodies is a priority for the city. Therefore, the recreational area on Zamarstynivska Street should be developed for the benefit of the entire neighbourhood.

“There will be one recreational lake on the site of the former industrial facility – several small fish ponds. A catering facility is also planned to be located next to the lake. Its initial rather large-scale parameters were not supported by the city planning council, so now the detailed plan contains an adjusted version of a much smaller facility.

In Lviv, we have good examples of such areas becoming magnets, while maintaining a balance between the convenience of residents and people visiting the area. In particular, as is the case near the lake on Stryiska-Naukova Street,” said Liubomyr Zubach.

In 2023, representatives of Avalon, which is the land leaseholder, ordered hydrogeological studies of the site on the recommendation of the city. They discovered a disruption in the Goloskivskyi Stream’s water supply, making natural pond restoration impossible.

Therefore, the tenants intend to create an ornamental pond with an approximate surface area of 800 sq m, build a one-storey catering facility with a summer terrace nearby, and arrange recreation and playgrounds around the lake.

“We have a clear intention to implement the recreational lake. In particular, because it is part of our memorandum signed with the residents of the surrounding area. Previously, there were ponds for fish farming, but now it will be a high-quality recreational area with one reservoir accessible to all residents. The project will be truly unique and valuable for both the residents and the community,” said Roman Davymuka, CEO of Avalon Development Company.

The developer plans to start creating a recreational area in the spring of 2025, after the approval of changes to the detailed plan of the territory.
