The third and final stage of the reconstruction of Zaliznychna Street has begun in Lviv. From today, the section from Sharanovycha Street to Korotka Street is closed to private traffic. Drivers are asked to take the restrictions into account and plan their routes in advance.
According to LKP “Lvivavtodor”, on the newly closed section preparations are now under way for dismantling the old road surface and starting the main construction works. The street is closed for repairs, with plastic barriers and road signs “No entry” and “Road works” blocking traffic.
In parallel, the second stage of the reconstruction continues — on the section from Yasna Street to Sharanovycha Street. Here, work is ongoing to upgrade the utility networks, which are already about 70% complete. Pavements are also being laid, kerbs and edging stones installed, and on part of this section the lower layer of asphalt concrete has been laid.
“The reconstruction is moving to the next stage. While we are finishing work on the section from Yasna Street to Sharanovycha Street, we are already starting on the stretch up to Korotka Street. Step by step, we are upgrading the entire street so that once the works are completed, Zaliznychna Street will have modern and comfortable infrastructure for all road users,” said the director of LKP “Lvivavtodor” Mykola Vlasiuk.
The diversion around the sections of Zaliznychna Street under repair is organised as follows:
- from the Horodotska Street side: via Khotynska Street, Holubovycha Street, Holovatskoho Street, then along Dekarta Street, Marka Vovchka Street, O. Stepanivny Street, Kvitky-Osnov’ianenka Street, Bortnianskoho Street, Lutskyi Street, exiting onto Shevchenka Street;
- from the Shevchenka Street side: along Levandivska Street, then along Zaliznychna Street to the closure point, and then a diversion via Yasna Street, Brativ Duzhykh Street, Brativ Mikhnovskykh Street, exiting onto Horodotska Street.
The repair of Zaliznychna Street has been under way since the end of last year and is being carried out using loan funds. The project provides for the complete replacement of utility networks, renewal of the road surface, installation of two cycle lanes, repair of pavements and the creation of parking spaces. The carriageway and cycle lanes will be surfaced with asphalt concrete, parking spaces will be paved with setts, and pavements with concrete paving slabs.
The street will be levelled to a single height to ensure convenient and step-free movement for all categories of residents. Most pedestrian crossings will be raised to pavement level.
On 2 July, the first repaired section of Zaliznychna Street — from the quasi-roundabout at the junction with Shevchenka Street to Yasna Street — was opened to traffic. Two-way traffic, cycling infrastructure and step-free pavements have been provided here.
The City Council recalls that after the start of russia’s full-scale invasion, capital road repairs in Lviv were temporarily suspended. However, due to heavy traffic, the surface on a number of streets began to deteriorate rapidly, and postponing the works would only have increased their cost. Therefore, in 2025, using loan funds, repairs began on one of the city’s most accident-prone streets — Zaliznychna Street.
In 2026, repairs also began on Mazepy Street, where works are ongoing. On Stryiska, Heroiv UPA, Horodotska and Vynnychenka Streets, repairs are being carried out with deferred payment. Local businesses are also contributing to the renewal of road infrastructure: in particular, the repair of Koniushynna Street was carried out with deferred payment and co-financing from businesses, and the repair of Beskydska Street is continuing in the same format.
