New section of Zaliznychna Street in Lviv to be closed for repairs

From Monday, 3 August, the repair zone on Zaliznychna Street in Lviv will be extended: works will begin on the section from Storozhenka Street to Sharanevycha Street. In connection with this, a section of Zaliznychna Street from Yasna Street to Sharanevycha Street will be closed to traffic.

On the section where reconstruction is under way, protective barriers and warning road signs have been installed, and sand embankments, construction materials and specialised machinery have been placed on the carriageway. A diversion around the closed part of the street will be organised according to a temporary traffic scheme.

Traffic from the side of Sharanevycha Street will be directed along Dekarta Street, Marka Vovchka Street, O. Stepanivny Street, Kvitky-Osnovʼianenka Street, Bortnianskoho Street and Lutskoho Street, exiting onto Shevchenka Street. In the opposite direction, from the side of Shevchenka Street, vehicles will travel along Levandivska Street and Zaliznychna Street to the closure point, then follow the diversion via Yasna Street, Brativ Duzhykh Street and Brativ Mikhnovskykh Street, exiting onto Horodotska Street.

As reported by LKP “Lvivavtodor”, there is currently intensive replacement of utility networks on the section from Yasna Street to Storozhenka Street, and the next stage will be repairs from Storozhenka Street to Sharanevycha Street.

Reconstruction of Zaliznychna Street began at the end of last year. The project provides for the complete replacement of utilities, renewal of the road surface, installation of two cycle lanes, repair of pavements and creation of parking spaces. The carriageway and cycle lanes will be surfaced with asphalt concrete, parking spaces will be paved with setts, and pavements will be laid with FEM slabs. The street will be levelled to a single height to ensure convenient, step-free movement for all pedestrians; in particular, most pedestrian crossings will be raised to pavement level.

On 2 July, the first refurbished section of Zaliznychna Street – from the quasi-roundabout on Shevchenka Street to Yasna Street – was opened to traffic. Two-way traffic, cycling infrastructure and step-free pavements have been provided here, creating comfortable conditions for all road users.

Repairs to Zaliznychna Street are being financed with loan funds, as resources from the city budget are primarily directed towards supporting the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
