In Lviv, ‘Romantyk’ Remains a Cultural Centre

In Lviv’s Park of Culture, there are active discussions about the privatisation of the former youth palace ‘Romantyk’. The city states that a sale is only possible if the building is to be used for cultural or family purposes. Today, there was an on-site meeting of the relevant committee.

We insist on adhering to the intended use as stipulated by the city council’s decision. However, this condition was overlooked in the sale agreement approved by the court,” notes Iryna Kulych, the deputy mayor. She also emphasises that the market value of the premises is significantly underestimated.

Lviv City Council aims to give ‘Romantyk’ the status of a modernist heritage site to protect the building from changes to its character or demolition, as it holds not only architectural but also historical significance for the community.

Oleksandr Molodyi, former head of the Park of Culture, expressed concern that transforming ‘Romantyk’ into private ownership for commercial purposes threatens the existence of the park. It is important for the building to remain a public space, rather than becoming another hotel or restaurant.
