Dismantling of networks begins on second section of Mazepy Street in Lviv

In Lviv, work has moved on to the reconstruction of the second section of Mazepy Street — from P. ORLYKA Street to Instrumentalna Street. The old asphalt surface has already been removed here, and the dismantling of kerbs and the public transport overhead line is now under way.

According to LKP “Lvivavtodor”, this work is a preparatory stage ahead of the renewal of utility networks on this part of the arterial road. On the first section of Mazepy Street — between Mykolaychuka Street and Orlyka Street — the laying of new utility networks is being finalised and preparations are being made to lay the lower layer of asphalt concrete. The contractor is Onur LLC.

“At the moment on Mazepy Street, on the section from P. Orlyka Street to Instrumentalna Street, we are carrying out preparatory works before the start of one of the most complex stages — the renewal of utility networks. Our task is to comprehensively upgrade Mazepy Street — from underground services through to convenient street infrastructure,” stresses the director of LKP “Lvivavtodor” Mykola Vlasiuk.

The reconstruction of this key transport artery of the Shevchenkivskyi district began in May. The project provides for widening the carriageway, installing two dedicated traffic lanes and island public transport stops, creating comfortable infrastructure for pedestrians and cyclists, as well as parking spaces and green areas. The works are funded by the European Investment Bank. One of the project’s objectives is to improve access to the surrounding medical facilities, in particular to the UNBROKEN centre.

As of now, Mazepy Street on the stretch from Mykolaychuka Street to Instrumentalna Street is completely closed to traffic, and public transport is running on diverted routes.

Bus route No. 34 (towards Bilohorshcha), as well as Nos. 12, 17, 46, 51, 55a and 84 in both directions, run along P. Orlyka Street – Tychyny Street – Khvylovoho Street – Instrumentalna Street, after which they continue along their usual routes. Buses Nos. 7, 31, 41 and 56a run along Khvylovoho Street and Instrumentalna Street in both directions, then continue on their main routes.

Temporary stops have been arranged for passengers. In total, 11 temporary stops operate within the closure zone: two on Tychyny Street, eight on Khvylovoho Street and one on Viry, Nadii, Liubovi Street.

For cars, the recommended diversion runs via the following streets: Mazepy Street → Instrumentalna Street → Khvylovoho Street. Then, depending on the direction, drivers can turn onto Tychyny Street towards Orlyka Street or continue along Khvylovoho Street towards Mykolaychuka Street or back to Mazepy Street. In the opposite direction, the traffic pattern is mirrored.

Heavy goods vehicles are directed along Chornovola Avenue, Lypynskoho Street and B. Khmelnytskoho Street, with a similar pattern in the opposite direction. The city authorities are asking drivers and passengers to take account of the temporary changes to traffic management and to plan their journeys in advance in order to minimise delays.
