Construction of a new overpass is under way in Lviv at the junction of Tarasa Shevchenka and Omelyana Kovcha streets, which is intended to improve transport links between the Riasne neighbourhood and the city centre. The progress of the works was reported by LKP «Lvivavtodor».
On the construction site on the Shevchenka Street side, work has begun on installing bored cast-in-place piles, which will form the foundations of the future overpass piers. So far, two of the five piles have already been installed. The process involves drilling a borehole to a depth of 23 m, installing a reinforcement cage and subsequent concreting.
The director of LKP «Lvivavtodor» Mykola Vlasiuk noted that this is an important stage of construction, as these structural elements form the basis of the structure and ensure its reliability.
Once the pile concreting is completed, the team will move on to constructing the concrete cap on which the bridge beams will be installed. The contractor has already carried out preparatory works on the site and reinforced the slope with a sheet pile retaining wall.
Preparatory works for the construction of the parallel overpass on Kovcha Street began in March this year. The new bridge will have three traffic lanes, a combined cycling and pedestrian zone, and traffic light control. City Hall stresses that the project should speed up traffic on the heavily congested Shevchenka Street and create the conditions needed to reconstruct the existing unsafe bridge.
The construction period for the new overpass on Kovcha Street is 11 months, although the works are expected to be completed by the end of this year. The cost of construction is UAH 106.8 million. The bridge is being built using loan funds, as the city budget is being directed towards supporting the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
