Lviv will honor the memory of the victims of the Sknyliv tragedy

This Saturday, July 27, Lviv will commemorate the 22nd anniversary of the plane crash at the Sknyliv military airport, which killed 77 people and injured about 250 others.

In the morning, at 10:00, a memorial service will be held in the Church of the Resurrection of Christ of the UGCC (319a Horodotska St.).

A memorial service will also be held on Sunday, July 28, at 11:00 a.m. at the Holoskiv Cemetery.

“That day took away the most precious thing in my life – both my children. This is the wound that will never heal for each of us – those who lost their loved ones during this tragedy. Every year we come together for a joint prayer, because the memory and prayer for everyone is very important,” said Ivan Kuts, head of the Sknyliv Tragedy NGO.

By the way, the city provides financial support to people who suffered or lost their relatives in the plane crash.

The Sknyliv tragedy was an accident that occurred during the celebration of the 60th anniversary of the 14th Aviation Corps of the Ukrainian Air Force at the Sknyliv airport near Lviv on July 27, 2002. A Su-27UB fighter jet crashed into a crowd of spectators, killing 77 people, including 28 children.

About 250 people were injured. By the number of deaths, this event is considered the largest disaster in the history of aviation holidays.
