In Lviv, the Anniversary of the First Democratic Session was Honoured

In Lviv, the annual gathering took place to mark the anniversary of the first session of the Lviv Regional Council of the democratic convocation. Deputies gathered at the monument to Vyacheslav Chornovil to honour his memory and the memory of all the deputies of that convocation who have passed away, with a minute of silence.

“Traditionally, on the day of the opening of the first session of the democratic convocation of the Lviv Regional Council, we gather at the monument to Vyacheslav Chornovil to honour the memory of the Great Ukrainian and our colleagues who have passed away. At that time, we made decisions that were ahead of their time and later became the foundation of state policy. It was a period of great responsibility when we had no right to make mistakes, having chosen the path of Ukraine’s independence,” noted Oreslava Khomyk, a deputy of the first and current convocations.

During the meeting, deputies recalled historical decisions that were crucial for the establishment of Ukrainian statehood: the introduction of national symbols, recognition of UPA veterans, processes of de-partisation, and the affirmation of democratic values. The first head of the regional executive committee, Stepan Davymuka, recalled the difficult working conditions of that time. “But the sense of mission led us to the results expected by millions of Ukrainians. The regional council and executive committee proved what one region can achieve,” he emphasised.

Senior colleagues were greeted by deputy and manager of the Lviv Regional Council’s affairs, Yaroslav Hasyak, and remotely by the acting head of the regional council, Yuriy Kholod.
