In Lviv, from 7 November municipal machinery switches to winter mode

From 7 November, the enterprises responsible for mechanised street cleaning in Lviv are switching to a winter operating mode. Special vehicles will be on duty round the clock and, when required, will be dispatched on routes to clear snow and spread anti-icing materials on the roads.

Priority will be given to main roads, public transport routes, major junctions and pedestrian crossings. Particular attention will be paid to challenging sections — inclines, descents, bridges and flyovers — to ensure safe movement for both vehicles and pedestrians.

In total, 154 units of municipal special-purpose machinery are planned to be involved in winter street maintenance: 102 units from road maintenance and repair enterprises and 52 units from other municipal enterprises. In addition, 13 LKP graders will be engaged, and, if necessary, a further 29 units of machinery from private enterprises may be brought in.

Switching to a winter mode means we must be ready for various weather conditions at any time of day or night. The machinery will be on standby and, when needed, will be sent out onto the streets to clear snow and spread anti-icing materials on the roads. Our primary task, therefore, is to ensure the safe movement of public and private transport, as well as the safe passage of pedestrians. We will pay particular attention to difficult road sections — inclines, descents, bridges and flyovers, — they note in the Housing and Infrastructure Department of the Lviv City Council.

District administrations will coordinate the work of municipal enterprises and machinery, which will operate in a state of round-the-clock readiness. Streets used by public transport and those with the heaviest traffic will be cleared first.

In the city’s districts, containers with anti-icing materials will be placed on the inclines and descents of main roads, as well as at public transport stops. Separate arrangements will be made for winter cleaning in parks, squares and on the grounds of city cemeteries: there too, containers with anti-icing materials will be installed, and LKP staff will clear snow and treat pedestrian paths and stairways.

All municipal enterprises involved in winter cleaning will operate in a state of constant readiness both for street clearance and for any emergency works that may be required.
