In Lviv, with the funds of benefactors, they started installing new windows after the last rocket attack

In Lviv, new windows are being installed in houses that were hit by a rocket attack on July 6. Wooden windows have already been ordered and are being manufactured for buildings that are monuments of architecture. At the same time, thanks to the help of an American charitable organization, the installation of new plastic windows has already begun in residential buildings that are not monuments of architecture, the windows of which were damaged by the blast wave. The work began with the house on the street. Sakharova, 29.

As Yevhen Boyko, head of the humanitarian policy department of the Lviv City Council, emphasized, as a result of the rocket attack that took place on July 6, many buildings in Lviv suffered significant damage, 4 houses were practically destroyed. The blast wave shattered the windows in the townspeople’s homes. Therefore, the municipal services of the city quickly began to collect information about the amount of damage, and took measurements of windows. In general, after the rocket attack in Lviv, it is necessary to restore about 3,000 windows, of which 600 are wooden – in buildings that are monuments of architecture, as well as plastic – in residential buildings that are not monuments, educational and medical institutions, NU dormitories ” Lviv Polytechnic”.

“Immediately after the missile strike, we got involved with the support of various institutions and charitable foundations. The very next day, they had communication with the residents, inspected all the affected apartments, formed a need and ordered the manufacture of windows. The first new windows were installed today. Thanks to the charitable foundation, which immediately responded and is helping with the restoration of windows in the homes of Lviv residents. We are working for victory,” Yevhen Boyko noted.

The installation of windows in non-landmark residential buildings is thanks to the help of the American charity Global Empowerment Mission (GEM) in partnership with the Howard Buffett Foundation. The organization implements many projects during the war. One of them is a window program.

“In Lviv, we plan to help install more than a thousand windows. The first round of works has already taken place. About 500 windows were measured, and they are already in the process of being manufactured. The windows will be brought here every two or three days so that the contractor has time to install them.

On the street Sakharova, 29, the first batch of 100 windows arrived. And they will be installed at the same time, which will ensure the quick return of people to their homes. This is the goal of our program – to help people return to their homes,” emphasizes Oleksandr Bobenko, the project coordinator of the window program of the American organization Global Empowerment Mission (GEM).

The first wreaths began to be installed in Mr. Serhiy’s apartment. The blast wave destroyed three windows in his apartment, damaged the interior and entrance doors. Neighbors helped him get out of the apartment.

“The commission arrived very quickly, conducted an examination and measurements of the windows. Not even a week has passed and the windows are already being installed. It’s good that it’s so prompt. No one expected that it would happen so quickly,” says Mr. Serhiy.

For reference. Global Empowerment Mission (GEM) – The international humanitarian organization GEM was founded in 2011 to offer hope through a new disaster response model that responds to today’s crises through an innovative, adaptive and scalable approach. GEM founder Michael Capponi.
