Winter break in Sokal extended until January 16 due to snowstorms and power outages

Due to heavy snowfall, a drop in temperatures, and frequent power outages, educational institutions in the Sokal community will remain closed, with the winter break extended until January 16.

For the past two days, from as early as 6:00 AM, snow removal work has been underway across the city of Sokal. Municipal utility “Sokalzhytlokomunservice” has deployed four tractors with snowplows, a MAZ truck, and a grader. Additionally, manual snow removal teams and two handheld snow machines are actively working across the city to ensure roads remain passable.

In outlying districts, road clearance continues based on requests from local representatives. Private company “Roma” is clearing locally significant public roads, while national road R-15 is being maintained by special equipment from “Avtomagistral-Pivden.”

Despite ongoing efforts, the volume of snowfall means roads are often re-covered with snow within an hour of clearing. The most problematic routes currently include:

  • Variazh – Belz – Leshkiv
  • Tartakiv – Sharpantsi – Leshchativ

Snowplows continue working on these segments to eliminate snowdrifts.

Local farmers and agribusinesses have stepped up to support the community by helping clear the roads. Those who have joined the effort include:

  • Khomyak I., Shamborovskyi V., Shmyhelskyi V., Shukhovskyi A., Vykovych I., Melnyk M., Shkoropad B., Khodor S., Lisnyk O., Veklyn M., Varenytsia R., Shevchuk R., Stetsyshyn B., Ivatt V., Semeniuk M., Kovalchuk Z., Havryliuk A., Tenderiak V., Khmara T., Veklyn I., Lakh T., Katsyura A., Stepanets A., Voloshyn Yu.
  • Companies: “Zakhidnyi Buh,” “Roma,” “Bilyi Stik” Agro-Firm, “Halych-Khutro,” “Hovi,” and “Klimat Plus” among others.

Sokal City Council extends heartfelt thanks to all municipal workers, janitors, farmers, entrepreneurs, and residents who are helping to manage the aftermath of the snowstorm.

As the situation remains challenging, the City Council continues to call on local farmers and business owners with large equipment to assist in snow removal.

A special request to all drivers: please do not park vehicles on the streets, as it prevents snowplows from effectively clearing the roads.
