On March 12, a public hearing was held in the village of Mezhyrechya in the People’s House “Prosvita” regarding the resolution of the issue of the existence of a Soviet-era monument on the territory of the village.
The monument of history “The Fraternal Grave of Soviet Border Soldiers” in the village of Mezhiryche is included in the state list of monuments of Ukraine. In 1970, the remains of Soviet soldiers who died in these areas in June 1941 were found on the territory of the village and its surroundings. In 1972, the monument “Soldier with a girl” was erected at the burial site.
During public discussions, the residents of the village of Mezhiryche spoke in favor of the dismantling of the Soviet monument, followed by the installation of a memorial cross in its place. In addition, among the proposals were to update the memorial tables and transfer the monument to museum institutions.
