Public Hearing on Street Renaming in Hirnyk

On Sunday, August 3, at 15:00, a public hearing will be held at the People’s House in the town of Hirnyk regarding the renaming of Tarnavskyi Street to Hero Andrii Kantsir Street — a 22-year-old soldier who died in 2024 defending Ukraine’s independence and freedom.

The renaming initiative was proposed by Vitaliy Hamanjuk, a deputy of the Sheptytskyi City Council, along with the command and personnel of the 77th Separate Dnipro Airmobile Brigade of the Air Assault Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, where Andrii served.

“Considering his selfless act, close ties with the community, and to honor his memory fittingly, I consider it appropriate to assign his name to the street where he lived,” stated Vitaliy Hamanjuk in his deputy’s appeal.

Andrii Kantsir was born and lived in Hirnyk. At the beginning of the full-scale invasion, he actively participated in establishing a volunteer headquarters and self-defense in Hirnyk. In 2023, he voluntarily joined the Ukrainian Armed Forces by signing a contract with the 77th Separate Dnipro Airmobile Brigade. He served as an unmanned aerial systems operator. He died on May 20, 2024, while performing a combat mission near the village of Stelmakhivka in the Luhansk region. His fellow soldiers described Andrii Kantsir as a courageous, fair, reliable, and experienced fellow serviceman who performed all combat tasks with honor and bravery and was among the first to agree to the most dangerous missions.
