In Lviv, the top layer of asphalt concrete has been laid on part of Zaliznychna Street — from the quasi-roundabout on Shevchenka Street to the junction with Yasna Street. This concerns a section about 400 metres long on one of the city’s most accident-prone streets.
According to LKP “Lvivavtodor”, more than 20 workers and 16 units of machinery were involved on site, including asphalt pavers and road rollers. After laying the asphalt, the contractor is continuing improvement works along the pavements.
“Work on the section from the quasi-roundabout on Shevchenka Street to Yasna Street is entering the final straight. The contractor still has to complete the construction of pavements and kerbs and install road signs. This section will be opened to traffic in the near future — we will provide additional information about this,” said Mykola Vlasiuk, director of LKP “Lvivavtodor”.
Repairs on Zaliznychna Street have been under way since the end of last year. Currently, work is being carried out on two stretches: from Shevchenka Street to Yasna Street and from Yasna Street to Storozhenka Street. Once these are completed, work will begin on the final part — from Storozhenka Street to Horodotska Street.
The reconstruction project provides for a complete replacement of utility networks, renewal of the road surface, installation of two cycle lanes, pavement repairs and the creation of parking spaces. The carriageway and cycle lanes will be asphalted, parking spaces will be laid with cobblestones, and the pavements with FEM paving slabs. The street will be levelled to a single height to make it easier for all categories of pedestrians to move around, so most crossings will be raised to pavement level.
The repair is financed with loan funds, as the resources of the city budget are primarily directed towards supporting the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
For the duration of the works, diversions around the repaired section have been introduced:
- from the Storozhenka Street side: via Shchekavytska Street, O. Stepanivny Street, Kvitky-Osnovʼianenka Street, Bortnianskoho Street, Lutskyi Street, exiting onto Shevchenka Street;
- from the Shevchenka Street side: via Bortnianskoho Street or O. Lutskyi Street, then Brativ Duzhykh Street, Brativ Mikhnovskyh Street, exiting onto Horodotska Street.
