The session supported the signing of the Memorandum on cooperation between the Lviv City Council, the Pustomytiv City Council, the Sokilnytsk Village Council and the Water Resources Basin Management of the Western Bug and Syan Rivers regarding the intention to find joint ways to ensure the cleanliness of the Shchyretsky Reservoir (Lake Navaria), the Shchyrka, Malechkovycha and Kovyr rivers.
“Only active and coordinated cooperation in the direction of improving the sanitary condition and recreational attractiveness of the Shchyretsky Reservoir and the rivers that fill it gives a chance to ensure the right of community residents to a healthy environment and the development of the sports and recreational potential of this territory.
Therefore, the Memorandum envisages the joint development of the Program of measures for the cleaning and revitalization of the Shchyretsky Reservoir within the scope of the work of a specially created working group,” explained Orest Tymchyshyn, Director of the Department of Housing and Infrastructure of the LMR.
The MoU has three main objectives that are critical to all parties. Namely:
1. To reduce the pollution of the Shchyretsky Reservoir and its tributaries by domestic sewage in the territory of the Pustomytivska and Sokilnytska communities in order to improve the state of the environment in the territory of the two communities.
2. Increasing the sports and recreational potential of Lake Navaria (Schyretsky Reservoir) for use by residents of the Lviv agglomeration.
3. Creation of a unified system of wastewater management in the territory of three communities with the aim of comprehensively solving the issue of pollution of the Shchyretsky Reservoir and joint search for funding.
The memorandum enters into force from the day of its signing and is indefinite.
