In Lviv, a visit took place by the President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky and King Carl XVI Gustaf of Sweden. For Carl XVI Gustaf, this is the first trip to Ukraine in the last 14 years. The guests jointly honoured the Ukrainian Heroes who gave their lives for the country’s independence.
The acting head of the Lviv Regional Council, Yuriy Kholod, and the head of the Lviv Regional State Administration, Maksym Kozytskyi, were also present at the ceremony. Sweden has been one of Ukraine’s key partners since the beginning of the full-scale war, providing more than $7 billion in military, financial, and humanitarian assistance.
Yuriy Kholod expressed gratitude for the solidarity visit: “We are sincerely grateful to His Majesty for the visit and to the entire Swedish people for their support, which is important not only for Ukraine but for the security of the whole of Europe.” He emphasised the importance of cooperation between the countries based on shared values and the aspiration for peace and justice.
