Zhovkva City Council approves free school meals and support for military units

Chaired by Mayor Oleh Volskyi, a regular session of Zhovkva City Council took place, at which 167 items on the agenda were considered. Councillors adopted a series of decisions relating to education, the social sphere, support for the armed forces, municipal infrastructure and community development.

One of the key decisions was the approval of a programme providing free school meals for all pupils in years 1–11. A total of UAH 10.6 million has been allocated from the local budget to implement this programme.

Support for the defence sector was also significant. The local budget allocates UAH 3.6 million for a further six military units. Since the beginning of the year, more than UAH 18 million has already been directed to meet the needs of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

The session established the municipal institution “Youth Centre “Romankiv Hub”” and approved the regulations for holding a competition to appoint its director. It also approved the regulations for a competition to appoint the director of the municipal institution “Community Development Institute”.

Councillors agreed a number of programmes in the social and educational spheres, in particular for funding social protection measures and supporting educational institutions. Separately, they approved a programme for organising and staging the folk opera-ballet “Koly tsvite paporot'” (“When the Fern Blooms”).

In the sphere of housing and utilities, the investment programme of the municipal enterprise “Zhovkvateploenergo” for 2026–2027 was approved, and permission was granted to conclude a contract for the supply of natural gas. A decision was adopted to transfer ownership of electrical grid facilities in the village of Viazova to PJSC “Lvivoblenergo”.

The session also addressed safety issues. Equipment was transferred free of charge to the balance sheet of the “Zhovkivshchyna Local Fire Protection Unit”. In addition, a programme was approved to improve the material and technical resources of Police Department No. 2 of Lviv District Police Department No. 1.

As part of the rationalisation of street names, the newly created street in the village of Nahirtsi was named “Ivana Kupala Street”.

Councillors heard a report on the execution of the local budget for the first half of 2026 and made amendments to its figures. They also worked through a number of land issues necessary for the proper management and development of the territories of the Zhovkva community.
