At Ohmatdyt Hospital, a unique medical intervention took place. A 16-year-old motorcycle passenger, involved in a RTA, fought for his health thanks to the efforts of an orthopaedic-traumatology team.
After the young man’s admission, he was diagnosed with significant injuries, including open fractures of the femur and other injuries, the doctors began stabilising his condition. The initial surgery involved wound cleansing and the use of external fixation devices for short-term stabilisation.
“The wounds were thoroughly cleaned, drained, and the fracture was fixed, which allowed us to buy some time,” said orthopaedic surgeon Oleg Tokay. Subsequent actions included repositioning and fixing the epiphyseal fracture using screws.
The patient also underwent intensive rehabilitation and treatment. The complexity of the situation required the involvement of several specialists. Currently, the boy is undergoing intensive rehabilitation with gradual recovery.
Furthermore, every parent should ensure their children’s safety, as the risk of road injuries increases with the onset of warmer seasons. “It’s better to prevent injuries than to treat them afterwards!” emphasises Professor Oleksandr Korolkov.
