900 square meters to restore opportunities: a physical rehabilitation department was opened in one of the regional hospitals

The Minister of Health of Ukraine, Viktor Lyashko, and the head of the Lviv OVA, Maksym Kozytskyi, reviewed the results of the work carried out.

Today, October 28, a physical rehabilitation department was opened in one of the regional hospitals in the Lviv Region. In order to improve the quality of rehabilitation assistance and increase the number of rehabilitation services for military personnel and the civilian population, which suffered from hostilities as a result of Russian military aggression against Ukraine, a modern physical rehabilitation department was created with halls for kinesiotherapy, occupational therapy, physical therapy, an office for preformed physical factors, an office for providing individual rehabilitation assistance.

Complex rehabilitation assistance will be provided on the basis of the department by multidisciplinary teams, which include doctors of physical and rehabilitation medicine, physical therapists, occupational therapists, speech and language therapists, psychologists and psychotherapists, physical therapist and occupational therapist assistants.

“The cost of major renovation of premises with an area of 900 square meters is more than 14.5 million hryvnias. The repair was carried out at the expense of the regional budget. It was held in compliance with all state building norms of inclusivity, the premises were equipped with a modern air conditioning and ventilation system. Also, the necessary equipment, worth almost 8 million hryvnias, was installed at the expense of the regional budget.” – said the head of the region Maksym Kozytskyi.

As Viktor Lyashko noted, the Ministry of Health has set a task in all cluster and supercluster hospitals to open rehabilitation departments with a capacity of 30 to 60 beds.

“This is necessary in order to create 5,800 beds across Ukraine on the basis of 120 institutions, which will ensure the availability and proper quality of rehabilitation care. In the future, we plan to create specialized centers that will work for the treatment of certain types of injuries. This will create 7,800 beds, which, according to our calculations, will cover the existing need. I am pleasantly surprised by the rehabilitation department in this hospital, because it is not the first time I have been in this hospital and every time I see real progress and achievement of European standards,” the Minister of Health emphasized.

In 2022, hospital specialists provided 2,441 outpatient rehabilitation services, 1,581 of which were to persons injured as a result of military operations. Inpatient rehabilitation medical care was provided here last year to 2,592 people, of which 1,560 were people after injuries. During January-September 2023, 2,933 patients received rehabilitation assistance here, of which 1,520 were persons injured as a result of military operations

“We are moving step by step to improve the provision of medical services, and rehabilitation is extremely important in times of war. The rehabilitation department in this hospital occupies almost 1,000 square meters. We did this primarily for our veterans: defenders, but people who have suffered strokes or other types of injuries will also be able to receive the necessary services here. Next year, we will continue our work on improving the quality of medical services in the entire region,” said Maksym Kozytskyi, head of the Lviv OVA.

As the general director of the hospital, Maksym Prykupenko, said, one of the priority directions of the development of the medical facility is the expansion of rehabilitation assistance to Ukrainians who suffered as a result of Russian aggression.

“In the new, spacious, modernly equipped rehabilitation halls, we will be able to significantly increase the number and quality of the provided rehabilitation services, help patients restore their physical and cognitive functions and psycho-emotional health, adapt and restore their independence,” summed up Maksym Prykupenko.
