The Ministry of Veterans Affairs of Ukraine has announced the launch of a pilot project that enables certain categories of veterans to receive free long-term medical care services.
The right to such support is granted to combatants and persons with disabilities as a result of the war who require substantial external assistance and have a functional status score of 30 points or less on the Barthel scale.
Long-term care includes medical monitoring, treatment and examinations, symptomatic therapy, assistance with hygiene and nutrition, supportive rehabilitation, psychological and social support, as well as training family members in the skills needed to care for the veteran.
The service is provided free of charge, funded from the state budget, on an inpatient basis in healthcare facilities that have concluded the relevant contract with the National Health Service of Ukraine.
The pilot project will run until 15 December 2026 inclusive. Detailed conditions for receiving the service, the list of required documents, the referral procedure and the list of medical institutions have been published by the Ministry of Veterans Affairs of Ukraine.
