Bohdan Malovanyi Leads the Clinical Center for Pediatric Medicine

Bohdan Malovanyi has become the acting CEO of the Clinical Center for Pediatric Medicine in Lviv.

The newly appointed director was introduced by the acting head of the Lviv Regional Council, Yuriy Kholod. “Introducing Bohdan Yaroslavovych to the team is easy. Over the 24 years he dedicated to Lviv’s ‘Okhmatdyt,’ he advanced from a nurse in the neonatal intensive care unit to medical director of surgical operations. He is a pediatric surgeon, a specialist in minimally invasive and robotic surgery, a father of two, who has dedicated his life to restoring health to young patients.”, Yuriy Kholod noted.

The head of the regional council thanked the previous acting director, Roman Kizima, for two years of diligent work. He emphasized that despite the challenges of the war, the regional Pediatric Medicine Center continues to develop and expand its capacity to help children. Since the full-scale invasion of Russia, Lviv region has received thousands of children evacuated from areas where fighting is ongoing and from front-line communities, necessitating an ever-increasing need for highly specialized pediatric care.

“We are implementing numerous projects to update hospitals’ material and technical base, renovate departments, and modernize clinics. Medical teams are training and acquiring experience from leading global specialists, and at our Center, the best foreign surgeons are consulting young patients and their parents and performing unique operations. I thank the entire team of pediatric medical professionals for their dedication and professionalism. I believe that under Bohdan Malovanyi’s leadership, the Pediatric Medicine Center will continue to grow, strengthen international ties, and fulfill its main mission every day — to save children’s lives and return smiles to their faces.”, added Yuriy Kholod.

Bohdan Malovanyi also thanked the staff of both hospitals of the Pediatric Medicine Center for their hard daily work and assured that he would continue to work daily for the development of the medical institution.

The Pediatric Medicine Center, formed by merging the ‘OKHMATDYT’ hospital and the Western Ukrainian Specialized Children’s Center, is the leading children’s hospital in the region. Annually, it provides specialized inpatient care to more than 19,000 children and offers about 110,000 outpatient consultations. The medical staff comprises over 1100 employees, and the united center has 420 beds across 34 clinics and departments.

Since the beginning of the full-scale invasion, the Pediatric Medicine Center has become the primary Ukrainian hospital in the SAFER Ukraine project: through it, more than 1700 critically ill children have been evacuated for treatment to leading clinics in Europe and North America. In 2023, the institution received the status of a national reference center for orphan pediatric medicine. Currently, the hospital is undergoing numerous infrastructure projects for clinic renovation, laboratory updates, and creation of new treatment spaces.
