Dmytro from Zamok Injured by Hook While Fishing

12-year-old Dmytro from the village of Zamok in the Lviv region was injured by a fishing hook while casting his rod. He was urgently transported by ambulance to St. Nicholas Children’s Hospital in Lviv, where doctors successfully removed the foreign object.

The boy explained that as he was casting his line, it got entangled, and the hook struck him in the eye. Dmytro’s friends were initially frightened, but some stayed to call for help. The first aid was provided by a shop assistant from the local store, who cut the fishing line to prevent further injuries.

Medical staff covered 70 kilometres to the scene in half an hour and promptly took the boy to Lviv. Ophthalmologist Anna Shpychak notes that the child was fortunate, as the hook did not damage the eyeball. Thanks to the quick response of those around and swift medical assistance, Dmytro has retained 100% vision.
