The director of the Langon Transplantation Institute of New York University performed a kidney transplant operation in Lviv

The legend of world transplantology, Robert Montgomery, whose donor heart beats in his chest, once again performed a kidney transplant operation in Lviv. The family transplant was performed by a world-renowned surgeon together with a team of doctors from the Transplantology Center of the First Medical Association of Lviv. This is Robert Montgomery’s third visit to this medical facility.

The patient is 37-year-old Andriy Pavlovsky from Vinnychyna. Due to chronic kidney disease – glomerulonephritis – the man has been on dialysis for the past 13 years. In order to live, he had to undergo this procedure three times a week for four hours to cleanse the blood of toxins and excess water.

So that Andriy could live a full life, his father Anatoliy gave him his kidney.

The family transplant was successful. 24 hours after the transplant, the American professor together with the doctors of the First TMO visited the patient. They are satisfied with the result of transplantation. Andriy himself is also happy: now he will be able to live without dialysis.

Professor Robert Montgomery is director of the New York University Langone Transplantation Institute. Due to an inherited heart condition, he survived seven cardiac arrests, cardiogenic shock, a lunar coma and eventually a heart transplant. Under his leadership, in 2021, for the first time in the world, a kidney from a genetically modified pig was transplanted into a human.

Professor Montgomery is listed in the Guinness Book of Records for 10 cross-transplantation of kidneys from living donors simultaneously.

During the operation of the Transplantology Center of the First Medical Association of Lviv, 163 kidneys have already been successfully transplanted. A total of 209 transplants were performed.
