One of its symptoms is a severe sore throat.
Surgeons at Lviv’s OKHMATDYT have successfully treated a serious complication. One of its symptoms is a severe sore throat.
“It was even difficult for the children to open their mouths,” the otolaryngologists at the Center for Pediatric Medicine, OKHMATDYT Hospital, said.
Two patients came to the Head and Neck Clinic a few hours apart with complaints of severe sore throat, inability to open the mouth and difficulty swallowing. The so-called unwritten medical law of “paired cases” kicked in.
This is a term used by doctors in their practice. When two patients with the same complaints or illnesses come to the doctor’s office at approximately the same time.
During the examination, the children were diagnosed with a paratonsillar abscess, which is a purulent melting of the soft tissues surrounding the palatine tonsils. The condition is dangerous and has a number of formidable complications and severe consequences for the patient.
If the throat abscess is not opened at this stage, purulent inflammation spreads to deeper tissues of the neck or chest. Therefore, it is very important to provide the patient with emergency care and open the abscess.
The patients underwent surgery to open and drain the paratonsillar abscess. During the surgery, up to 20 ml of pus was removed from each patient.
Immediately after the surgery, the patients felt relieved and were even able to eat, as it was impossible before.
Thanks to the timely appeal, our specialists quickly provided highly qualified care to the patients.
“I really liked the attitude of the doctors, they are very nice. The rehabilitation period was also fully accompanied by specialists, who answered all my questions. I’m very glad that there are improvements in medicine,” said Olena, Yarema’s mother.
“Very positive impressions, polite, attentive doctors, I liked everything 200%, we got to Okhmatdyt on the recommendation and are very pleased,” said Diana’s father Vitaliy.
As a reminder, the Head and Neck Surgery Clinic of the Center for Pediatric Medicine, Okhmatdyt Hospital is open 24/7.
