Lviv hosts Canadian medical professionals who are sharing their expertise in diagnosing and treating epilepsy.
The Mayor of Lviv, Andriy Sadovyi, met with Canadian doctors who regularly undertake missions to Ukraine to share their experiences with Ukrainian specialists. During the meeting, the mayor discussed issues of treating psychiatric disorders in children with the guests. “Notably, at the meeting, which was held with the assistance of the Honorary Consul of Canada in Ukraine, Oksana-Anastasia Vynnytska-Yusypovych, there were leading psychiatrists and neurophysiologists from Canada,” noted Solomiya Hryhoryeva.
**The main topic of the meeting was epilepsy**, particularly the importance of initial pre-medical care during seizures. The medical experts decided to develop a course for Lviv school teachers so they can act appropriately in such situations. The collaboration between the St. Nicholas Hospital and SickKids began back in 2012 and includes not only training but also equipment modernization.
**An important part of the collaboration is the school of neurophysiology and epileptology**, now operating at the Lviv hospital. This will enable the training of specialists for the whole of Ukraine. Additionally, **a special neurophysiological laboratory has been created**, which will conduct a full range of diagnostics and treatment of epilepsy.
