St. Nicholas Hospital in Lviv receives equipment to save children’s hearts

The Cardiac Surgery Center of the St. Nicholas Hospital of the First Medical Equipment Company in Lviv received much-needed equipment to save children’s hearts.

It was donated by philanthropists. The cost of the specialized equipment is UAH 2.5 million.

“Our good friends from Credit Agricole Ukraine donated UAH 2.5 million to our Cardiac Surgery Center. The good deed was realized with the support of the charity fund Your support. We are grateful to the benefactors for their support and constant assistance, and together we continue to save the lives of little Ukrainians,” the St. Nicholas Children’s Hospital of Lviv’s First Medical Equipment said.

The purchased equipment includes special syringe pumps for administering medications to young patients, especially in the intensive care unit after surgery; one NIRS monitor to track oxygen consumption by body tissues during surgery; and a phototherapy lamp to help treat jaundice in newborns.

The Center for Pediatric Cardiac Surgery at St. Nicholas Hospital was opened in 2022. It is the only such department in the western regions of Ukraine. It has 18 beds and 6 more intensive care beds. Cardiac surgeons perform the most complex interventions for children from the first hours of life without the need to transport the baby over long distances.

Since the beginning of the Russian aggression, the Center for Pediatric Cardiac Surgery has treated 1773 children from different regions of Ukraine, and 2577 children have received outpatient care. And these are only those young patients who were forced to leave their homes because of the war.
