The young patient was also diagnosed with pleurisy and fibrothorax.
It all started with a cough, shortness of breath, high body temperature and pain in the left chest.
Specialists diagnosed the girl with bilateral pneumonia, left-sided exudative pleurisy (inflammation of pleural sheets, accumulation of exudate in the pleural cavity) and left-sided fibrinotorix (deposition of fibrin on pleural sheets with the formation of limited cavities with fluid).
The child’s recovery process was complicated by a concomitant pathology – anorexia. In particular, there was low protein and lack of strength in the body. In intensive care, the girl used special mixtures and weighed 36 kilograms.
“At first, the patient was in the pulmonology department of our center. Then she was transferred to the surgical ward. Doctors performed thoracoscopy, adhesiolysis, sanitation and drainage of the pleural cavity. Thanks to the coordinated and professional actions of the team of specialists of our Center for Children’s Medicine, “Okhmatdyt” Hospital, the girl was successfully cured. She has already been discharged home,” said Oleksandr Kolodiy, a pediatric surgeon at the Center.
