Lviv Doctors Successfully Transplant Kidneys to Two Female Patients

In Lviv, doctors have given two women a new lease of life through kidney transplants from a deceased donor. The women, aged 36 and 50, had previously been enduring exhausting dialysis.

One of the patients, 50-year-old Svitlana, had been battling kidney disease since childhood. In 2023, her health condition forced her onto the waiting list. For 36-year-old Olena, the diagnosis was also unexpected following a viral illness.

Both women received the eagerly awaited call about the availability of a donor on 31 March. In order to save time, surgeons from the Transplant Centre of the First Medical Association of Lviv performed the operations simultaneously with two teams. The surgeries were successful, and both women were discharged from the hospital on the seventh day.

The doctors express gratitude to the donor’s family for the decision that granted others a chance at life. The Transplant Centre has been the leader in Ukraine for five consecutive years in the number of transplants performed.
