Lviv Doctors Saved Father of Two Soldiers with Heart Transplant

Igor Koverko, a 56-year-old resident of Lviv region, underwent a heart transplant after a heart attack caused by stress from the war.

Cardiac surgeons at the Transplantation Center of the First Medical Association of Lviv performed a lifesaving operation for Igor Koverko, who was overwhelmed with worry for his sons on the front line. Initially, there were no health issues, but the war changed everything. “Transplantation is my chance to be with my children again,” said Mr. Igor.

After the heart attack, the man’s heart functioned at only 20%, necessitating an urgent transplant. In the summer, he was placed on the waiting list for a donor organ. A donor became available six months later, and on January 17, cardiac surgeons replaced the worn-out heart with a new one.
