Lviv Doctors Save a Boy with Severe Pneumonia

A Lviv student found himself on the brink of life due to bilateral pneumonia.

A common cold in 22-year-old student Ivan Knyzhnyk escalated into a complex disease. The young man was admitted to St. Luke’s Hospital in a critical condition. Late seeking of help resulted in resuscitation and connection to a ventilator (mechanical ventilation). ‘I’ve been afraid of hospitals, doctors, and ambulances since childhood,’ Ivan admitted. He managed to recover thanks to the efforts of the medical staff.

Specialists diagnosed bilateral viral pneumonia and placed him in the intensive care unit. Anesthesiologist Roksolana Luchkiv noted: ‘We thought it would be much more difficult to wean the patient off the ventilator.’ Thanks to Ivan’s mobility, he quickly regained his ability to breathe.

Ivan is now at home, fully recovered, and thanks the team of doctors: ‘It greatly changes your outlook on life.’
