In Lviv, doctors performed a complex surgery to save a man with stage 3 cancer.
Doctors at St. Pantaleon Hospital successfully removed a tumor in the oral cavity and the affected lymph nodes. This was the only chance for the 59-year-old Serhiy Polnyuk, whose mouth sores turned out to be cancer. The doctors not only managed to remove the tumor but also conducted tissue reconstruction due to atherosclerosis of the neck vessels.
“The only possible option was surgical intervention”, noted Oleh Kovtunyak, the head of the head and neck center.
Thanks to the use of a large pectoral muscle flap, sufficient blood supply was ensured. The patient is now in remission and gradually recovering after the surgery. The patient’s wife expressed gratitude to the Lviv doctors for their work.
