Specialists at the Transplantation Center in Lviv successfully performed a liver transplant on a 30-year-old woman with an incurable disease.
The patient, Maria Beyko from Ternopil region, learned about her diagnosis after undergoing tests before starting her job. She suffered from primary biliary cholangitis, which caused irreversible liver damage. “It was unexpected and sudden,” she noted.
Maria was placed on the waiting list for a donor organ even before the full-scale invasion began and waited for over three years due to her rare AB (IV) blood type. A chance for salvation came thanks to a 16-year-old boy who tragically died in a car accident. His parents decided to donate their son’s organs.
The operation was successful, and now Maria can enjoy life with her family. “I knew that I was in good hands,” she emphasized with gratitude.
