Lviv Doctors Advise: Water Safety During Summer Heat

In the summer heat, it is important to remember the safety rules while swimming in water bodies.

“To ensure that relaxation by the water brings only benefits and positive emotions, it is necessary to follow these recommendations,” notes therapist Olha Lishchenko from the Second Medical Association of Lviv. You should swim only in specially equipped places and during daylight hours. It is important that the water temperature is not lower than +18°C, and the air not lower than +24°C.

It is necessary to avoid swimming during storms or thunderstorms, as the water can be dangerous. It is recommended to enter the water 1.5-2 hours after eating. The first contact with water should be careful so that the body can adapt to the temperature change.

After swimming, it is better to rest in the shade instead of sunbathing. You should choose calm rivers for swimming and avoid swimming alone near steep banks. “Do not jump into the water if you are not sure of the sufficient depth,” the therapist emphasizes.

It is important to maintain an even breathing rhythm and to avoid long swims for untrained people. Alcohol consumption before swimming should be avoided, as well as playing dangerous games in the water.
