Little Lviv Resident Anya Overcame a Serious Illness

Little Anya from Lviv went through 8 anesthesias, 5 blocks of chemotherapy, and one extremely complex surgery in five months of life.

A large mediastinal tumor threatened the girl’s life, complicated by a severe generalized infection. Anya’s parents were carefully monitoring their daughter’s health, but suddenly symptoms appeared that compelled them to seek medical attention. *«The X-ray showed the entire left lung was “lit up”. She was essentially breathing with only one lung»* – recall the parents.

In severe condition, Anya was admitted to the Children’s Medical Center, where a large tumor formation was discovered. *«Standard aggressive chemotherapy could have been extremely dangerous. However, due to the massive size of the tumor and lung compression, waiting was impossible»* – explains oncologist Nelya Vovk.

At a multidisciplinary consultation, it was decided to start chemotherapy in the most cautious mode. After stabilizing the child’s condition, the surgical team performed a complex surgical intervention. *«We were very afraid that Anya might not survive the surgery, her condition was so critical»* – recalls the girl’s mother.

Thanks to the coordinated work of the doctors, the tumor was completely removed. After the surgery, Anya continued chemotherapy to minimize the risk of recurrence. Follow-up examinations showed encouraging results – no signs of active oncological process were detected.

Today, the parents are delighted that Anya is active, smiling, and very sociable again. At 2.5 years old, she already knows she will definitely become a doctor, but only for adults, as she wishes for children never to be sick.
