In July 2025, Drogobych region observed a sharp rise in cases of tick-borne borreliosis, also known as Lyme disease.
The infection is transmitted by ixodid ticks, causing a disease that affects the nervous system and other human organs. Four new cases were registered in July, while there were only three in the previous six months. The main symptom is erythema – a ring-shaped redness on the skin. Symptoms may resemble the flu: fever, joint and muscle pain.
People’s susceptibility to the disease is high, so if a tick bite is suspected, it is necessary to consult an infectious disease specialist. For prevention, one should cover their body before visiting a forest or park, avoid tall grass, and use special sprays for repelling ticks.
More than 40% of tick attachments occurred in the forest park area. To reduce the risk of infection, it is recommended to treat green areas with certified equipment. The territory treatment is conducted under the supervision of the Drogobych district department of the State Institution \”Lviv Regional Center for Disease Control and Prevention, Ministry of Health of Ukraine\”.
