From 9 to 13 November, a technical test of the rapid public information system using Cell Broadcast technology will be carried out in districts of Lviv region. This was reported by the Department for Civil Protection of the Lviv Regional State Administration.
Cell Broadcast is a technology that makes it possible to instantly send alerts to mobile phones of people who are within a specific coverage area. The message appears over all apps or the lock screen, is accompanied by a loud distinctive signal and can sound even in “Silent” mode.
The main advantages of the system include the speed of delivery without overloading the mobile network, the possibility of geotargeting — that is, sending alerts only to residents of a specific district or locality, as well as anonymity: phone numbers are not required for the distribution, all devices within range of the mast receive the signal.
The system will be tested according to the following schedule:
- 09.11.2026 — Drohobych district;
- 10.11.2026 — Zolochiv and Lviv districts;
- 11.11.2026 — Sambir district;
- 12.11.2026 — Stryi district;
- 13.11.2026 — Sheptytskyi and Yavoriv districts.
During the testing, a special message will be sent to mobile phone screens with text about the technical test of the rapid public information system in the relevant district of Lviv region, with a request to remain calm.
In future, this system is planned to be used for promptly alerting residents about real threats and emergencies.
