Agrarians of Lviv Oblast decided on the areas of winter crops for the harvest of 2024.
This was reported in the department for digital development of the Lviv regional government.
In the autumn sowing campaign, farms of all categories are expected to sow about 230,000 hectares of winter crops, which is 1.4% more than the area of the previous year. In the commercial sector, the area under winter crops in the 2023/24 season will occupy 146,000 hectares (+2.4% compared to last year’s area). According to average annual data, the area of cultivation of winter crops occupies about 40% of all sown areas used by agricultural producers.
“Agricultural producers give priority to winter grain crops, as they give a 20-40% higher yield, depending on the crop. According to average annual data, winter grain crops provide up to 50% of the total gross grain production for the year,” said the director of the department, Tetyana Hetman.
For the harvest of 2024, it is forecasted to sow more than 183,000 ha (+3.6% compared to last year) in farms of all categories of winter cereals, while technical crops (winter rapeseed) are less by almost 7% (46,600 ha). Among winter cereals, the forecast for winter wheat sowing increased by more than 4% and winter barley – by 0.5% this year. Also, according to operational information, as of September 6, more than 28 thousand hectares (62% of the forecast) of winter rapeseed and 1.4 thousand hectares (0.8%) of winter cereals have already been sown in Lviv region.
