On 14-16 November, the first National Conference on Spinal Cord Injuries will be held at St Panteleimon’s Hospital of the First Medical Association of Lviv. The event will bring together experts from all over the world.
“Spinal cord injury or spinal cord trauma is an extremely sensitive issue in times of war. The military suffer such injuries as a result of shelling, and civilians are injured under the rubble of buildings during rocket attacks. However, the treatment and rehabilitation of such patients has not yet been established in the country: there is a catastrophic lack of infrastructure and specialists.
To help this category of patients in the best way possible, a specialised 20-bed rehabilitation unit for patients with the most severe spinal cord injuries is being set up at the First Medical Association of Lviv with the help of donors. It will be unique for Ukraine, as most of the equipment will be imported from abroad for the first time,” explains the First Medical Association of Lviv.
Experts from different countries have already arrived in Lviv to train the unit’s specialists, who are teaching healthcare workers how to manage patients with spinal cord injuries. They will take part in the conference for three days – from 14 to 16 November. More than 30 experts from Ukraine, the UK, Canada, the USA, Norway, Sweden, Australia and Ireland will speak at the conference.
Participants will have the opportunity to listen to two days of lectures and take part in 10 practical workshops on the third day.
Media representatives are also invited to attend the event: they will have the opportunity to talk to patients and receive comments from the Deputy Minister of Health of Ukraine and foreign experts.
The conference starts at 09:00.
