Serhiy Danov from Shostakivka Receives Bionic Prosthesis in Lviv

41-year-old Serhiy Danov from the village of Shostakivka in the Kirovohrad region has received a bionic hand prosthesis at the UNBROKEN centre in Lviv. This became possible after he lost his left hand and several fingers on his right hand due to a strike by an enemy FPV drone.

Serhiy, who previously worked in repairs, joined the Armed Forces of Ukraine in March 2024. He served in the “Falcon” drone systems battalion of the 21st Separate Mechanised Brigade. He was injured in the Sumy region while preparing a UAV for operation.

After the injury, Serhiy underwent treatment in Sumy and Kyiv, where fragments were removed from his body. At the UNBROKEN centre in Lviv, he underwent re-amputation and was fitted with a mechanical, and later a bionic, prosthesis. He is currently actively learning to use his new hand.

Serhiy shares that the prosthesis helps him perform everyday tasks, such as holding a cup of coffee. He hopes to return to his civilian profession after completing treatment and rehabilitation.

The UNBROKEN centre in Lviv provides comprehensive medical assistance to those affected by Russian aggression, including prosthetics and rehabilitation. A Centre for Assistance to Ukrainians who have been tortured or suffered severe moral trauma has also been opened here.
