Rabies in a dog: quarantine introduced in Drohobych region

The quarantine restrictions will be in place for two months in the village of Storona of the Skhidnytsia community and its 5-km zone.

The day before, on 9 February, the Lviv Regional State Laboratory conducted a study and confirmed the presence of the rabies virus in the dog.

It was found that the dog, aged 18, had bitten people and died afterwards.

“The relevant services are taking the necessary measures to prevent the spread of the disease. The place where the dog died and the yard were disinfected,” the Drohobych District Administration said.

All dogs and cats will be vaccinated in the village of Storona.

The quarantine will last until 9 April 2024 inclusive, unless new cases of the disease are recorded.

As a reminder, quarantine restrictions due to rabies are currently in place in Drohobych district in Skhidnytsia and in the villages of Ranevychi and Bystrytsia of the Drohobych community.
