Every year on November 14, the world celebrates Diabetes Day.
More than 1 million diabetes patients are registered in Ukraine and approximately 200,000 patients are forced to take insulin constantly, in the Lviv region this figure reaches 67,000 patients, of which 13,390 are insulin-dependent and 943 are children.
Diabetes is a chronic disease in which the pancreas does not produce enough insulin or the body cannot effectively use the insulin produced. Insulin is a hormone that regulates the level of sugar (glucose) in the blood.
The main symptoms of the disease:
excessive urination;
thirst;
constant feeling of hunger;
weight loss;
fatigue;
deterioration of vision.
As a result of uncontrolled diabetes, hyperglycemia (increased blood glucose level) occurs, which leads to damage to many body systems, especially nerves and blood vessels.
Type II diabetes prevention consists of simple measures to maintain a healthy lifestyle:
reach a normal body weight and maintain it;
be physically active and devote at least 150 minutes a week to regular physical activity;
follow a healthy diet and reduce the amount of sugar and saturated fats;
refrain from smoking.
