The collection for a bionic hand prosthesis for the Ukrainian defender Serhiy, who was blown up by a landmine on the anniversary of meeting his beloved and lost his arm, continues

A team of surgeons, prosthetists, rehabilitation specialists and psychotherapists is already working with Serhiy at the NEZLAMNI National Rehabilitation Center of the First Medical Association of Lviv, because a complex operation is ahead.

A man who has already lost his right hand risks losing his left hand – the nerves on it are damaged. Therefore, it is necessary to put a prosthesis as soon as possible. It costs 20 to 40 thousand euros. In order to buy one for Serhiy and other defenders, the NEZLAMNI center together with the charity platform Dobro.ua started fundraising. Everyone can join.

Serhiy was blown up by a mine on the anniversary of meeting his beloved and lost his arm. In order not to burden his beloved, he decided to leave her. But she looked for a soldier and proposed marriage. Now the couple is in the NEZLAMNA center of the First Medical Association of Lviv. Here Serhiy is being prepared for prosthetics. Meanwhile, the center together with the charity platform Dobro.ua are collecting funds for a modern bionic hand prosthesis for the defender.

Serhiyev Kostyuchenko is 22. He is from Zhytomyr Oblast. As a teenager, he was with his father on the Maidan and always wanted to defend Ukraine. Therefore, two years ago he signed a contract with the Armed Forces. Was in the East. In February, he and his brothers were transferred near Kyiv. Irpin, Bucha, Moschun. Next – Luhansk Region. On May 29, he was wounded. When the shelling began, Serhii was in the field and remembers only the explosion. When he opened his eyes, his right hand was gone, his left was damaged, his legs were cut. He could not get up and could not call for help – the lung was torn. The boy recalls: he was waiting for death, because it was very painful. The only thing he was worried about was that his body would not be found. At that moment, a fellow drove by in a car. Serhii raised his leg with the last of his strength. And he saw him. Next is resuscitation. When he came to his senses, Sergey decided that he would leave Yulia. She looked for him through her siblings and came. When she entered the ward, Serhiy burst into tears, and Yulia said: “Marry me.” They just got married in the hospital.

Now the couple is in Lviv – in the National Rehabilitation Center NEZLAMNI. They came here when they heard that bionic prosthetics had been launched here and had already given the first such arm to a paratrooper.

The boy has no doubts that those whom he protected will take care of him. After all, he says: when people hear that he is a military man, they don’t even take money for coffee. To the question of whether the difficult path is behind them, Serhiy and Yulia answer: “No. It’s hard ahead, but we’ll get through it. Everything will be fine. We are together”.

Anyone can participate in fundraising for a prosthesis. All you have to do is go to the website Dobro.ua – the project “Prostheses for the Unbroken” and click “support”: https://dobro.ua/project/unbroken/

We will remind you that the National Rehabilitation Center NEZLAMNI is being created in the First Medical Association of Lviv. Thanks to this, doctors are already treating, prosthetics and rehabilitating Ukrainians in Ukraine. A multidisciplinary team works with each person at the center, providing surgical, physical, psychological and psychosocial professional care. Thanks to the support of donors, a prosthetics workshop has already been opened and the first bionic prostheses have been installed.
