The citywide preventive campaign “Health Week in Lviv”, which was to take place on 22–26 September, has been postponed to 6–10 October. The dates were changed because of an unfavourable weather forecast, as rain is expected next week and all medical tents will be operating outdoors.
The organisers emphasise that the format of the campaign and the range of free services for residents remain unchanged. At 33 locations, Lviv residents will be able to undergo check-ups, receive consultations from doctors and, if necessary, referrals for further tests.
During Health Week on 6–10 October, visitors will be offered:
- blood pressure measurement;
- blood glucose testing;
- a ferritin test to assess iron stores in the body;
- assessment of cardiovascular disease risks;
- electrocardiograms in ambulance vehicles;
- testing for HIV and hepatitis B and C;
- PSA testing (prostate-specific antigen);
- a test for Helicobacter pylori;
- blood group and Rhesus factor determination;
- dermatological examinations;
- dental consultations;
- appointments with obstetrician-gynaecologists from St Anne’s Hospital.
Among the new options this time is the ferritin test, which makes it possible to detect iron deficiency even before haemoglobin levels fall. During consultations with obstetrician-gynaecologists from St Anne’s Hospital, women will be able to ask questions about reproductive and general women’s health.
Residents are asked to take the date change into account when planning their participation in Health Week and to inform relatives and friends who also intended to come for check-ups.
According to medical staff, during the Health Week campaign held in June, 10,356 people underwent free examinations. Almost one in three participants were found to have readings outside the normal range that required a doctor’s attention: more than 2,900 people had elevated blood pressure, more than 1,700 had abnormal glucose levels, and in almost 350 participants, the ECG showed changes that required further diagnostics.
Health Week is organised by the Health Care Department of Lviv City Council together with municipal medical institutions. Medical tents will be set up in different districts of the city and in localities of the Lviv community according to the following schedule.
