Tuberculosis is an infectious disease caused by the tuberculosis mycobacterium. It most commonly affects the lungs but can also affect other organs. It is transmitted through the air from a person with an open form of the disease. Timely diagnosis and treatment guarantee recovery.

In Ukraine, approximately 700-800 children contract tuberculosis each year. Despite the challenges of war, Ukraine continues to implement WHO recommendations and develop national strategies to combat TB. The “Law of Ukraine on Overcoming Tuberculosis” adopted in 2024 strengthens the intersectoral approach, uniting the efforts of medicine, social protection, and public organisations.

Prevention of tuberculosis includes vaccination (BCG) for children, radiographic examination, a healthy lifestyle, and a balanced diet. The risk of developing tuberculosis can be assessed by completing an anonymous online questionnaire. All services related to the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of TB in Ukraine are free of charge.
