In the Lviv hospital, the patient received a lung transplant from a posthumous donor

The First Medical Association of Lviv performed the second lung transplantation from a posthumous donor in the history of Ukraine.

The donor organ was received by a single father whose lungs were damaged during the accident at the Chernobyl nuclear power plant. He is one of the liquidators, and his 8-year-old son was waiting for him near the operating room.

“Our doctors performed this operation without the help of foreign colleagues. For the first time not only for us – for Ukraine. And you know, like everything in life, this path was not easy. We worked hard, prepared for a long time. And now we have a team of the best doctors. And we also have reliable friends – the Heart Institute team. They drove through the night to help transplant the heart while our heart surgeons work on the lungs.

It is important to have a purpose in life. It is important to have like-minded people. It’s important not to give up, even when you don’t succeed right away. That’s why we continue to work,” said Oleg Samchuk, general director of the First TMO.

We will remind you that last year a record number of transplants were performed in Lviv, saving almost a hundred Ukrainians in Ukraine. Medical teams of the First Medical Association transplanted 7 hearts, 12 livers and 78 kidneys: of them, three kidneys and one liver were given to children.
